Upcoming fall festivals in Charlotte

Posted on 30 Aug 2014 by Joe Restivo

While it seems like summer just started, the truth is that fall is just around the corner. The kids are heading back to school and thoughts are turning to apples and pumpkins instead of swing sets and pools. As you are thinking ahead to fall, consider these popular fall festivals.

Festival in the Park
This year marks the 50th Festival in the Park, which runs from September 19 through September 21. This festival has something for everyone, from headlining performers on the main stage to kid-friendly entertainment filled with laughs on the Carolina Clowns Stage. You’ll even have the chance to see magicians and some representatives from the Carolina Raptor Center. Of course, the festival also includes rides, vendors and food. The festival is held in Freedom Park along the lake.

Great Grapes!
Great Grapes is a wine and food festival held in Charlotte at Symphony Park in the SouthPark Mall. This year the festival is scheduled for October 4 from 11 to 7. Festival attendees will have the chance to sample 220 wines from 20 local wineries, as well as taste test foods from around the region. The event’s main stage will feature live music, and kids are welcome to attend and enjoy the fun in the kid’s area. The event costs $20 for admission and wine tasting. Kids attend free!

Autumn in the Park
The 4th annual Autumn in the Park festival in Ballantyne is schedule for Saturday, October 11 starting at 11. This family-friendly event is held at the Morrison YMCA and features activities such as a chili cook-off, pumpkin carving contest, hydride, crafts, oyster roast and a cornhole tournament. All benefits from the event go to local charities, and there will be plenty of food, beer and wine available for purchase.

Fall is an exciting time in Charlotte! Make plans now to attend one of these popular festivals as you prepare for the cooler weather and autumn colors.
