Donate your camera to Charlotte’s underserved youth @ Light Factory’s summer camera drives

A picture is said to be worth 1000 words. Therefore, a camera can speak volumes for the person pointing and shooting. Underserved youth could have the chance to make their voice heard through the art of photography with your help.

Community members wishing to support youth in having the uniquely fun opportunity to express themselves while becoming more visually literate have two unique opportunities to help students in need through scholarships and a camera donation drive occurring later this month.

The Light Factory’s Student & Youth educational programs will allow underserved youth to enjoy The Light Factory’s summer camp program with loaner equipment at no charge.

The Light Factory is one of only four museums in the United States that promotes the power of image through photography and film. Since 1972, The Light Factory has served students, artists and the public at large by offering film screenings, photography exhibits, classes and outreach programs that promote media literacy and self-expression.

To facilitate a cost-free experience for these summer camp students, The Light Factory will provide used cameras for these students. Interested donors can turn in cameras that are in good working condition for The Light Factory Camera Drive occurring on:

Thursday, May 31 from 10:00 a.m. —  5:00 p.m.
Friday, June 1 from 10:00 a.m. — 5:00 p.m.
Saturday, June 2 from 7:00 p.m. — 9:00 p.m.
