Bank of America site plan Phase 1

Bank of America is planning a large, one-million-square-foot development in the University City area. The development will be located on 24 acres of land just west of the intersection of Mallard Creek Church Road and North Tryon Street.

If built, the development would be for general and medical office use, and would have space for retail, shops, and other services including beauty shops and childcare. It is still unclear how much space in the development would be occupied by Bank of America.

Lincoln Harris recently filed a rezoning application on the behalf of Bank of America, including the Phase One plan seen above. The first phase would include a building up to 200 feet in height (roughly 10 floors), and the second phase would have a maximum height of 265 feet. The land where phases two through four sit would be used as surface parking for now. Infrastructure improvements would be made to the area, including  a second left turn lane on northbound Tryon Street, tree-lined sidewalks along both streets, and a connection to the Mallard Creek Greenway.

The development would be located within walking distance of the Mallard Creek Church Road Station on the proposed LYNX northeast light rail line.  An unrelated development of medical office suites, is currently being built across Tryon Street from the Bank of America site.

This land was once part of the Alexander plantation, and a historic  slave cemetery is located just north of this property.

For more information on the development see this article by the Charlotte Business Journal and view the rezoning application filed with the city.
