Last leg of I-485 to be started by end of the year

Construction on the last segment of Interstate 485 should begin by the end of the year – six years ahead of the current construction schedule, Gov. Bev Perdue said Tuesday.

In a surprise announcement, Perdue and Transportation Secretary Gene Conti said federal stimulus money could pay for part of the highway, which would complete Charlotte’s often-delayed 65-mile loop.”

    The rundown:

    The road: Last leg of I-485, from Old Statesville Rd. (115) to I-85. Approx. 5.5 miles with 8 lanes.
    The cost: $120 million for the road, $100 million for the I-85/I-485 interchange.
    Timeline: Construction to begin in late 2009 after the start date of this leg had been pushed back to 2013 then back to 2015. Completion: Construction is estimated to take 2 years.

    Is there a map somewhere that shows the predicted path that this final portion of 485 will take? I’m looking to see what neighborhoods will be razed. Thanks in advance.
