Charlotte band Eyes of the Elders competing to perform at Bonnaroo

Posted on 11 Apr 2011 by Jeff Taylor

The Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival has grown into one of the most significant and well loved festivals in the country. Playing Bonnaroo is a huge opportunity, especially for up and coming bands looking to capture the ear of a wider audience.

This year, on the 10th anniversary, Charlotte’s own Eyes of the Elders are vying for one of those coveted spots to perform among the likes of Arcade Fire, The Strokes, Eminem, My Morning Jacket, Dr. John, Girl Talk and The Black Keys.

They are taking part in a competition called “Road to Roo,” which will award two bands with $1,000 and, more importantly, the chance to play Bonnaroo.

Each act has provided a song that can be downloaded, and each download counts as a single vote. The top eight bands with the most downloads will be reviewed by Bonnaroo’s music supervisors. Two of those bands will be awarded the prize money and a spot on the bill.

As of this writing, Eyes of the Elders are sitting at #7, out of over 700 competing bands. Voting continues through April 15th.

In addition to getting a free Eyes of the Elders track — titled “A Powerful Thirst” — you’ll be entered into a sweepstakes to win two VIP tickets to the festival.
