Levine Museum in the New York Times

An Enigmatic Land of Great Expectations
“It is unlikely that anything resembling the impressive Levine Museum of the New South would exist anywhere else. A museum of the New North or the New East would be merely peculiar, but here the term “New South” has a venerable heritage, recalling unrealized hopes and great expectations. There is [...]

Vicente Fox speaks at Charlotte Museum of History

Tuesday evening CLTBlog-tographer James Willamor and I had the most amazing opportunity to cover a speech given by the Former President of Mexico. He was in town with the Former First Lady, Marta, speaking at the Charlotte Museum of History for their Distinguished Speaker Series. Even better, I got [...]

Is that a fact?

This is the opiniony part:

The thing one must remember about scientists, and this is my opinion, is that they expect to be wrong.  They allow for wrongness. Science gets it wrong, often. It’s a rare occurrence when scientists observe something [...]

This is the sixth in a series titled “Creative Crossroads” — where we take a look at the current state of arts and creativity in the city.

You can watch the piece in its entirety over at Carter’s website.
Props to @jritch for finding this.

Charlotte circa 1987 from the air

I found these pictures on Urban Planet this week, though I can’t find a link to the proper thread now for the life of me. It’s cool to see uptown Charlotte pre- most of what it is now. The originals were badly discolored (I forgot how yellowish-green the 80s were), so I did what I [...]

Bojangles Coliseum

Like chicken ‘n biscuits, so goes the partnership between Charlotte classics like Bojangles and the original Charlotte Coliseum. In November of ‘08 Bojangles received unanimous approval for naming rights of the celebrated stadium.
The newly titled Bojangles Coliseum is owned by the City of Charlotte and operated by the Charlotte Regional Visitors Authority. Originally opening its [...]

Google Earth has a nice view of Charlotte

I downloaded the new version of Google Earth today (version 5.0) and noticed a dramatic improvement in the 3D models for much of uptown Charlotte. I’m not 100% sure if this is a new feature to the 5.0 version, but I know the additions are no more than a month or two old.

Enjoy the outdoors close to the city

Looking to escape Charlotte and enjoy the outdoors and autumn weather without driving three hours to the west?  Morrow Mountain State Park and the Uwharrie National Forest are located just an hour or so east of the Queen City.
