After a two year absence from Charlotte, Mellow Mushroom will be back this summer.
The Charlotte Business Journal reported about this earlier in the week but the article was focused mainly on the development property they are leasing the space.
The new Mellow Mushroom will be located on Selwyn Ave. and Colony Rd.
The old location was nestled on the popular NODA corner of 36th and North Davidson St.
Will the new location work a bit better?
Selwyn Ave Pub, located very close to Mellow Mushroom’s new location, has been a success story since 1990. A local hangout, Selwyn Ave Pub has a huge outdoor patio heated by lamps during the colder months, and completely packed during the warmer months.
If Mellow Mushroom is going to stay afloat in this neighborhood, I am sure a nice outdoor patio will be a must have. That is just what people are accustomed to. Selwyn Ave Pub doesnt really do much on their patio other than seat guests. I would like to see Mellow Mushroom step that up with some cornhole, darts, and the old-school ring toss (its a southern thing, I think).
The new location is slated to be over 5,700 square feet of leased space. I would say that is quite a bit bigger than their old location. However, the new neighborhood will present a much larger pool of potential customers.
We will have to see…
