Matthews Community Farmers Market open for the year

Saturday morning marked the first day of the Matthews Community Farmers Market for the year. Unfortunately, I got there at 8:30am (a little late in the day as far as the market is concerned), so I missed out on most of the crowd. I only caught the end of a demonstration from local chef/restaurant owner Mark Hibbs of Ratcliff on the Green. He cooked up some samples along with his sous chef as they taught market patrons tips for preparing what they were about to buy. It was a rainy morning so the scheduled harp performance by the excellent Amber Carpenter had to be postponed.
You can find the market full of 40+ vendors and, in addition to last year’s great sellers, now you can get home-made candy! Yum! It is definitely worth the trip, even for those in University City.
The market runs every Saturday morning from 7:15am until noon (now until November). Plus, it’s a growers-only market, meaning that everyone selling either grew or made what they are offering you. I’m going to try to make it out there at least twice a month, and I’ll hope to see you there.
