Sports fans on tight budgets rejoice! Saturday features two free sporting events Uptown.

First is the Carolina Panthers FanFest at Bank of America Stadium. The festivities kick off on Saturday outside the North Gate at 9:00 AM with games, contests, and music. Bank of America Stadium is then opened to fans at 9:30 AM with appearances by Sir Pur and the Top Cats cheerleaders, in addition to on the field contests for fans and a highlight film on the giant screens. Finally at 11:00 AM the Carolina Panthers take the field for an open practice including warm-ups, drills, and scrimmages.

Second is the Presbyterian Hospital Invitational Criterium — a bicycle road race through the streets of Uptown. The professional women’s 25-mile race will begin at 5:30 PM Saturday and the professional men’s 50-mile race at 7:00 PM. According to their website:

The Presbyterian Hospital Invitational Criterium will feature an international field of 200 of the world’s best riders competing for over $75,000 in prize monies. Last year more than 35,000 spectators watched an elite field of riders from 23 countries, and this year’s crowd is expected to be even bigger.

If you plan on driving Uptown, be aware they will begin blocking off Tryon Street Uptown as early as 8:00AM on Saturday. Slideshows of last year’s Carolina Panthers FanFest and Presbyterian Hospital Invitational Criterium after the break:
