The Charlotte Global Shapers, a local hub of the World Economic Forum, have identified a creative approach to address youth unemployment in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg area. They will be hosting a business idea competition called SHAPE Charlotte, with up to $15,000 in cash prizes for winning teams. Anybody with a viable business idea can enter as long as they meet certain criteria:
- At least one team member must be a permanent resident of the Charlotte Regional Area, which includes the following counties: Anson, Cabarrus, Gaston, Lincoln, Mecklenburg, Rowan, Union and York
- Team members participating in the competition must be under the age of 30
- The business will ultimately create jobs for youth in the Charlotte area
Not only will winning teams receive cash prizes to help make their business a reality, but all teams will receive mentor support from business leaders throughout the competition.
Big names in the Charlotte business community have already signed on to help, from David Jones of Peak 10 to Igor Jablokov of Yap.
The deadline for applications is October 10, 2012 at 11:59PM. Apply at the Charlotte Global Shapers website now.
