Heavy rains wreaked havoc on the Queen City this morning, turning Charlotte into the home of the US National Brownwater Center. Several streets were flooded, and the city’s greenways turned brown as the Mighty Mallard and Surging Sugar escaped their banks. Video and slideshow of the aftermath after the page break:

    The floodplains of Mallard Creek were going about their quiet and efficient work of storing all that water alongside the creek so homes and (most of) our streets stay dry. It’s a beautiful thing if you stop to think about it…
