Who cares about roses and chocolate anymore?

Posted on 14 Feb 2012 by Hannah Hillson

It’s inevitable. The holidays are over, and daily routines are established again. Just when you think you escaped the love bath associated with December and January festivities, the worst (and yet best) reminder of your current relationship status sneaks up on you: Valentine’s Day. For many, this holiday is a time to abundantly show love to your significant other, for others it is nothing more than a commercialized day nicknamed Single-Awareness Day. Both are still reason to have a good weekend.

Despite the negative feelings associated with February 14, one may find comfort in not being alone. Instead of wallowing over your lack of a partner, embrace the day as a time for yourself and your other single friends. Have a luxurious girls’ night out at one of Charlotte’s great nightclubs. Several restaurants and bars will be holding singles parties all weekend, including Love Sux Saturday night, sponsored by Howl at the Moon located in the EpiCentre. You can bring a mutilated picture of your ex for free admission and then enjoy an X-Boyfriend cocktail. If you’re looking for something more low-key, throw a singles-only party for your friends. All are great opportunities for you to be around other singles looking to enjoy the holiday, in spite of its relationship requirement.

If you’re looking for something interactive to do with your sweetheart, Groupon is offering a discount for a BYOB (bring your own beer) painting class at The Artisan Learning Studio in Cornelius.

Valentine’s Day or Single-Awareness Day doesn’t have to be a boring night, regardless of your relationship status. For those in a relationship, ditch the dinner and movie and opt for something unique and personal. Singles, unite and hit the town for one of the great events going on. However you choose to partake in the holiday, have fun and enjoy celebrating, whatever the reason.
