The Charlotte Observer and the Hickory Daily Record report that Apple is clearing about 100 acres of land to build a solar farm adjacent to their Maiden, NC data center.
Permits issued by Catawba County show that the Cupertino, Calif., company has been approved to reshape the slope of some of the 171 acres of vacant land it owns on Startown Road, opposite the data center, in preparation of building a solar farm.”
You can download a copy of the erosion control permit via Catawba County’s website.
Below is the initial 70-acre plot purchased by Apple, which is being used for the data center itself.
