On behalf of A Healthier Charlotte and CLT Blog, I’m happy to introduce our new show, A Healthier Charlotte.
I’ll be joining you as host to discuss major national public health issues from a local perspective, and with local experts. Watch a quick intro video I filmed explaining this show in more detail.
For the first episode, four medical professionals joined us on the show to discuss obesity, childhood obesity, and prevention tactics:
Dr. Shivani Mehta — Pediatrician, Teen Health Connection
Dr. Pam Young — Pediatrician, Matthews Children’s Clinic
Jennifer DeCurtins — Fitness Instructor (follow Jen on Twitter)
Molly Barker — Founder, Girls on the Run International
Tune in to find out what our guests had to say about causes and solutions to the obesity epidemic, and what Charlotte residents can do about making their families a little bit healthier each day.
After the show, visit A Healthier Charlotte for web extras, behind-the-scenes footage, and in-depth blog posts concerning childhood obesity, providing local expertise and solutions.
A big part of our show is interaction, so follow me on Twitter and Facebook! I want to hear from you about how we can make the show better with each episode.

Behind the scenes on the set during filming.
Our next show will debut October 25 right here on CLT Blog. We’ll be talking to a group of Charlotte-area healthy living bloggers about new media, health communications, and how fitness information is shared on the Internet.
Until then — stay healthy, Charlotte!
Great show, great guests. GOTR is such a cool organization and you guys did so well! When will there be more?

hey Elaine!
The plan right now is to air one every two weeks… we may go more frequently depending on how y’all respond to it, but at the very least, it’s every two weeks!
Thanks for watching, I really appreciate it.
Bobby,
Great great topic and very wonderful panel. I am the chair of NEDA Walk Charlotte on Saturday October 22nd at Freedom Park. I am bringing to Charlotte the very first community wide event to bring awareness to eating disorders. I would love to talk with you about the event and helping to get the word out! http://neda.nationaleatingdisorders.org/charlottewalk. Come join our cause!
I am also the founder of Melissa’s Voice Foundation, Inc. My foundation is to provide education, resources and scholarships to those that cannot afford the costly treatment for eating disorders. Like Childhood Obesity, eating disorders affect over 10 million boys and girls, men and women in the US alone. My goal is to bring a voice to those that are suffering in silence! We are granting our first scholarship for treatment during NEDA Walk Charlotte On Saturday October 22nd.…Would love to have you join! Lynn
Hi Bobby — I’d like to learn about your upcoming program, who’s best to talk to?
A Charlotte startup, Tykoon, is focused on helping families create fiscally responsible kids and would be a great resource for an episode.

Thanks!
Financial health for kids! Interesting topic, Tanner. I’ve got your website bookmarked, we’ll take a look at it — thank you!
Great video, thanks for putting this up. Where does Jen Decurtins personal train?
hi ellen — i train at the charlotte athletic club and am also available for in-home session. if you have any questions you can email me at jdecurtins@gmail.com.
Ellen, she’s REALLY tough, if you watched what she put me through during the Fit Minute segment, you know she means business!!
(No, I’m obviously just having a little fun — she’s the best!).
So many kids are also affected by food allergies & autoimmune disorders such as Celiac which can also cause them to be overweight due to slow a metabolism. Think sometime in the future that topic will be considered??? Thanks.
Maricela! Without a doubt. This was the inaugural episode, so there is TONS to talk about and a bunch of topics to hit — including several that I know you and Big D will like/find interesting out in Fayetteville!
Thanks for watching, by the way!
