Too darn hot!

Today, Sunday, was by most measures the peak of Charlotte’s recent heat wave. The upcoming week will bring us just a day or two more of sun, finishing out with a solid block of summer storms.

Don’t be like I was today — playing an hour of tennis at the peak of the day, at the peak of the heat wave, only to come stumbling home in defeat. Here are a few common tips for braving the hot weather without injury:

  • drink plenty of liquids
  • wear light-colored, lightweight, loose-fitting clothing
  • don’t consume too much alcohol or sugar (both dehydrate your body)
  • avoid very cold drinks, which can cause stomach cramps
  • limit outdoor activity to morning/evening hours and stay inside when possible
