When I was at Freedom Park a few weekends ago on “Fossil Fools Day” (a day to commemorate independence from fossil fuel energy) checking out a rally against Duke Energy’s expansion of its Cliffside Coal Plant in Rutherford County, I snapped a few photos, including the the strange and inexplicable sign above.
I think it can be interpreted one of three ways:
- Read literally, “Do not disturb and do not mow grass,” probably meaning that everyone bringing their personal push mowers to freedom park should avoid disturbing other patrons by considering the opportunity to mow somewhere else.
- As a notice to workers at the park not to mow the grass. However, maintenance staff should potentially be communicated with via less costly and/or permanent methods.
- Do not disturb the lawnmowers.
The more I think about it, the more I understand that it’s like a David Lynch movie.
