Pics: Plaza Midwood’s new Harris Teeter

Posted on 29 Apr 2011 by Justin Ruckman

Pretty great design for this area. If only Harris Teeter didn’t have a logo that looks like it was made in Microsoft Publisher 1996.

From the Plaza Midwood Neighborhood Association Facebook page:

The proposed new Harris Teeter will replace the current Harris Teeter at 1704 Central Avenue, with a required rezoning and expected decision on the rezoning by September. Demolition is expected in 2012 with an opening in 2013. Plaza Midwood Neighborhood Association will gather comments and concerns. Public meetings will be held, and an information table is expected at the Midwood Maynia event.

Can someone please tell me why money is being spent on this to REPLACE something that’s already there when we’ve got a giant food desert in Charlotte affecting nearly 73,000 people?

PffT! I’m sure they simply forgot to ask your permission, sweetheart.

Or, perhaps it’s that the current building was built in the late 50’s and is very energy-inefficient, is too small for what Harris Teeter would like to provide the neighborhood due to the continued growth in local population (notice the big housing buildings, called apartments and condos, being built just blocks away?), and they have no idea what you might mean by the ‘giant food desert’ and therefore have no way of addressing that particular ‘concern’ of yours (did you mean GIANT FOOD DESSERT? I’m all for that!).

I’m sure you really tried, darlin’. Really hard, too! But don’t wear yourself out thinking about ‘things’. You’re too pretty for that …
