I came across these two videos recently: one filmed driving through the city in October 1986, and another taken by the same person following the same route just last month. I could watch this kind of stuff for hours.

October 1986

March 2008

  1. Holy Cow! That is awesome! I had then synced up for a bit…that is fantastic.

Wow 69 c for regular and 89 c for premium… How things have changed!

  3. And remember that we were here then … we moved here in 1984 when you were 3 months old so you were living here then and at the ripe old age of almost 2. And like Deanna … look at those gas prices … wouldn’t that be nice now ???

  4. My how the style of the cars have changed … the gas prices have skyrocketed … and Charlotte has really grown and you can still see the construction is still going on.

  5. Great video!

It’s weird (telling) though that there seems to be more people in the street & walking around 22 years ago vs. now that they’ve built up the city. On a related note, there was a Belks Dept store in town…here’s hoping that they bring back more street retail.

pretty cool. love the fact that journey was playing on the radio as “new” music. i would like to see the aerial shot comparisons of uptown and mecklenburg county as a whole.

That was excellent. I wish more people documented things like that. I forgot about the old walkway that connected the Ivey’s building and Belk’s building (now Bank of America Tower).

    Very cool find. Thanks!
