Dilworth to augment neighborhood police

Dilworth is the latest Charlotte neighborhood that hopes to hire moonlighting police to cut crime — or at least allay the fear of it.… In Dilworth, over Easter weekend, a man and woman walking down Worthington Avenue were assaulted at gunpoint. About three weeks ago, a couple fled a robbery attempt. In December, an employee of Owen’s Bagel & Deli on South Boulevard was carjacked.”

    It seems like the crime from the less developed areas of town are spilling over to the more affluent areas now. I really don’t think it is a matter of their not being enough police or security. I think there is a growing community problem and a huge rift being created between the poor areas and the rich areas. There is no buffer zone between the two so it is not surprising that it’s spilling over.
