River Jammin’ at the Whitewater Center

Posted on 15 Apr 2008 by Jason Keath

Back by popular demand, the Thursday Night Concert Series, River Jam, sets off May 1st – with what looks to be a pretty eclectic set of acts throughout May. The US National Whitewater Center is definitely one of Charlotte’s hidden gems. Charlotteans are just beginning to discover what the center has to offer, and with more events like this, hopefully more people will stop by to see the secluded charm of the place. If you haven’t seen the Whitewater Center yet and dig good music, here is your chance to checkout both. Or in their words:

Catch a unique Whitewater Center sunset over the river and eat some great food; you won’t find a more relaxed scene anywhere!”

I still haven’t gotten down to the Whitewater Center yet, and its like 5 minutes from where I grew up.

CLT Blog will be at the upcoming Olympic trials in number though, huzzah!

The Whitewater Center is a cool place. They have started charging for parking, though, due to loss of millions of dollars. So, just know that it’s at least 5 bucks out of your pocket when you go… small price to pay for a pretty awesome place.

thats kind of lame. so if you want to hike or bike on what use to be free trails, its $5? still a very cool place, but not a good step to increase community support

Maybe they’ll ease up once they start getting the volume of people they’re designing the place for. At least offer some kind of annual pass.

Actually, they do have an annual parking pass for $35. There’s an article in the Gaston Gazette about it. I’ll get it to you Justin.

I think one of the neighbors is offering discounted parking on his property and shuttling people in on his tractor or something. Seriously. Anyway, the parking’s worth the price. The place is really cool. Beers out on the patio, overlooking the rapids. Can’t beat it.
